As soon as the sound of your greeting
reached my ears,
the baby in my womb leaped for joy

Luke 1:44 (NOV Translation)

When was the last time you felt really excited about something?  Was it a special occasion?  A piece of good news? Or perhaps the chance to see a loved one in what seems like the first time in forever?

There is a beautiful scene between Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist, and Mary, the mother of Jesus as they meet when they are both pregnant.  The women are delighted to see one another but there is something even greater going on as the baby nestling in Elizabeth’s tummy gives a sudden significant wriggle as Jesus is brought close.  There is a joy in the meeting between these two women but also the tangible expectancy of something even greater to come.   Elizabeth, full of the Holy Spirit exclaims to Mary ‘Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear!’

We are in the season of waiting, this is the pregnant pause before the celebration can really begin.  Don’t worry, the baby is on its way, the light is coming and will soon be here.  There can be a little leap of joy now, but just you wait until the main event.
